Police arrested the helper of the bus 'Fahad and Maisha Paribahan' for attempted rape of a college student on the moving bus at Dirai under Sunamganj of Sylhet on Monday morning, informed Superintendent of Police of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in Sylhet.
The arrested helper has been identified as Rashid. Police seized the bus but the driver and his assistant managed to escape.
Ashraful Islam, Officer-in-charge of Dirai Police station informed,' the girl was the lone passenger in the bus and the driver and his assistant attempted to rape her on the moving bus. Police arrested the helper of the bus and trying to arrest other accused as well.'
It is learnt, the college girl on last Saturday evening was travelling alone to Dirai from her sister's house in Sylhet. While the bus reached near Sujanagar village of Dirai Municipality, the driver and the helper of the bus attempted to rape her. To save her from being raped, the college girl jumped out from the moving bus and became seriously injured.
Watching her lying beside the road in an injured condition, two youngmen of Sujanagar village rescued her from the spot and admitted her to Dirai Upazila Health Complex. Later, she was shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital with fractures on her head, hands and other places of the body.
