Burial of soldier Sharif completed in Sirajganj

Burial of Bangladesh Army soldier Sharif Hossain, who was killed in a bomb blast while performing professional duties in Africa through peacekeeping mission, has been completed.

He was buried on Saturday afternoon at Bara Kharua Cemetery in Belkuchi Upazila of Sirajganj. Earlier, the army's hearse reached his village home at around 12:30 pm. Sharif's father Lebu Talukder received the coffin wrapped in army and UN flags from the army personnel. At that time his wife, mother, siblings, relatives and villagers were present. Seeing the body, the relatives burst into tears. The atmosphere became heavy with their cries. At 2:30 PM, his body was buried in Belkharua cemetery with state honors after prayers.

Sharif was the eldest among three brothers and sisters. After passing SSC from Alhaj Siddique High School, Belkuchi, Sharif joined the Bangladesh Army in 2017.

He went on a UN peacekeeping mission in December last year. An infantry battalion of the Bangladesh Army has been engaged in peacekeeping across a wide area since November 9, 2021.

On October 3, a team of mechanized patrols led by Major Ashraf from one of the temporary camps deployed in remote areas patrolled Kaita area at 7:30 pm local time. At 1:35 PM Bangladesh time, the first vehicle carrying Patrol Commander Major Ashraf was hit by an IED buried in the ground. 

The car was thrown about 15 feet away. Soldier Sharif, Soldier Jahangir and Soldier Jasim were seriously injured on the spot. They were taken to Boare Minuska Hospital, 144 km away, for advanced treatment on an emergency basis, where doctors declared them dead.
