Bumper yield of mustard in Chalan Beel region

This time, bumper yield of mustard has been achieved in Sirajganj district. Farmers in the district specially in Tarash upazila are happy as they achieved the most yield in the region till now. Mustard is now grown in wide fields of dried up Chalan Beel region in the upazila. This mustard crop has brought joy to the eyes of the farmers.

According to the Upazila Agriculture Extension Department, mustard has been cultivated in 4,630 hectares of land in Tarash Upazila this year. This year the target was 4,520 hectares. At present, mustard seeds are being sold for 2,300 Tk. Besides, mustard is being harvested up to 6-7 mounds per bigha. Mustard-9, Bari mustard-14, Trab-6 varieties of mustard have been cultivated in this upazila.

Abdul Momin, a mustard farmer from Kamarshan village in Tarash upazila, said that the price of edible oil is increasing in the country, so they are cultivating mustard to meet the demand for oil. He cultivates mustard in 5 bighas of land every year.

Farmer Manju Sarkar said that it costs Tk 3,500 to 4,000 to cultivate mustard per bigha. Farmers are benefiting a lot from this. Later, Boro cultivation requires less fertilizers and pesticides.

Tarash Upazila Agriculture Officer Lutfunnahar Luna said the target was set for mustard cultivation in 4,520 hectares of land in the upazila this season. The farmers have cultivated mustard in 4,630 hectares of land beyond the target. Bumper yield has already been achieved in the upazila, officials stated.
