Mango trees in Chuadanga district have already started sprouting. Mango buds are spreading fragrance in the area already. Nature is smelling the sweet scent of mango buds. Year after year, the minds of mango lovers have become desperate again. This time the mango orchards of Chuadanga district are full of golden buds ahead of time. The gardens of different areas have been visited, the sweet scent of mango buds with various flowers on the trees is making the air intoxicated with the smell of honey. Yellow buds have started appearing in bunches. Seeing the buds and cocoon mangoes on the trees, the traders are already bidding for the garden. And the garden owners are spending their time in gardening with application of fungicides to get good yield of mango.
According to the Chuadanga Agriculture Extension Department, 32,955 metric tonnes of mango was produced in a total of 1,892 hectares of land in Chuadanga district last year. This year, mango has been planted in a total of 1,665 hectares of land including 826 hectares in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, 280 hectares in Alamdanga, 410 hectares in Jivannagar and 325 hectares in Damurhuda. Compared to last year, this time 93 hectares of land has been planted more. This year's production target is about 23 thousand metric tons. Mango cultivation is increasing every year as the climate of Chuadanga is favorable and mango is profitable. The main mangoes being cultivated in this district are Amrapali, Lengra, Fazli, Haribhanga, Mallika, Thai, Gopalbhog, Bari 10, Desi, Benarsi Sitabhog. The lion's share of this is Amrapali.
Bakul Hossain, a mango farmer from Jafarpur village in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga, said, “My mango tree has started to have a lot of buds this year. So far no disease has attacked mango buds. The weather is good too. If there is no natural calamity, I hope every mango tree will get enough mango.”
Majedur Rahman, owner of a mango orchard in Manoharpur village of Jivannagar upazila, said that most of the trees in the orchard have already sprouted. This time the buds have blossomed well as there is less fog. Last year there was a mango orchard on 8 and a half bighas of land which he sold for 4 lakh Tk. This year there is 11 bigha mango orchard. Many people have planted mango orchards in the area.
Mohammad Ali Jinnah, training officer of the district agricultural extension department, said mango production was good in Chuadanga. Earlier this year, buds were appearing on the mango tree. Moreover, no natural calamity has occurred so far. If the weather is favorable, there will be no need to apply a single pesticide on the mango. However, fungal diseases can infect mango buds and pods. So you have to spray fungicide twice in the garden. He further said that mango cultivation can be easily profitable. Due to which many are coming forward in this profession. At present mango is being cultivated in the cultivable land of the district. We are advising the farmers at different times to get good yield of mango.
