Although the litchi cultivators in Ishwardi of Pabna are expecting a bumper production of the fruit, they are worried over smooth transportation of the fruit outside for the closure of public transport due to the ongoing Coronavirus situation.
Litchi growers in Ishwardi informed, due to impact of Coronavirus, large fruit traders from Dhaka and other places of the country are not now showing their interest to purchase Litchi from Ishwardi. As a result, Litchi orchard owners in Ishwardi are now worried. Litchi is grown in all seven unions of the upazila and the cultivation is growing every year.
Ishwardi Upazila Agriculture Office sources informed, Litchi is produced in 3,500 hectares of land in the upazila. Moreover, Litchi trees are also seen to grow at homestead land and at the courtyards of houses of the district. Due to its good price and production, the cultivation of Litchi was increasing every year.
Litchi orchards are mainly seen at Salimpur, Sahapur, Paksey, Dashuria and Muladuli unions of the upazila.
Within next one week, Lithci would be seen to be sold in various hats, markets and road sides of the upazila. Badhsa Pramanik of Madhyapara Maninknagar village under Salimpur union informed this year there was better production of Litchi but due to the Fasting (Ramadan) and closure of public transport, they were worried over supplying the fruit out of the upazila and to get a satisfactory price of it.
Litchi cultivators in the upazila informed, ripened Litchi is likely to be ready for consumption during the last week of the present month. Among the Litchies, varieties of Bedana, Bombai, Madrashi, China-3 and local variety of litchies are the most famous in the country.
The Litchi of ishwardi is supplied throughout the country but due to closure of public transport for Cornavirus situation, they were worried with the sell of the fruit.
Abdul Latif, Upazila Agriculture Officer at Ishwardi informed, Litchi is Ishurdi is famous all over the country. Latchi has been produced on 3,500 hectares of land of the upazila this year.
