Bumper Boro production in Brahmanbaria

The farmers of Brahmanbaria are happy to see the bumper Boro production this year as the weather was favorable. The farmers are eagerly bringing the Boro harvest in their houses.

The farmers of the district said that they are satisfied with the production. However, they expressed dissatisfaction over low price of Boro paddy.

Department of Agriculture Extension sources said that the government has been providing fertilizer at subsidized price and several other agricultural equipment for free to the farmers.

The farmers will be benefitted when the government will collect Boro paddy from them.

A bumper Boro production has been experienced by the farmers in the district this year. The target was fixed for 1,11,405 hectors of land and the production was done on 1,11,696 hectors of land. It is expected that the production will be more this year than last year.

In the current Boro season, farmers are getting good yield by cultivating BRRI-28, 88, 96, 101, 102, 104, Bangabandhu 100, Bina-25 and other new verities of Boro paddy. The target for this season was fixed at 7,15,543 Metric Ton. Its approximate price will Taka 22 crore. Department of Agriculture Extension hoped that the production may exceed the target this year as new varieties of paddy were introduced. Boro harvesting has already started in the Haor areas which will continue till May.

 Farmers said that around 10 to 12 thousand taka was cost per Kani. They are hoping to get 15 to 16 maunds paddy from per Kani of land. The labor and other equipment cost is high.

Deputy Director of Agriculture Department Shushanto Saha said that the price of paddy will hike when the government will start collecting paddy from farmers at the end of this month or in May.
