A student of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University(BSMRSTU) was allegedly gang-raped on Wednesday night. The incident took place near Nobinbag helipad in Gopalganj Sadar.
According to sources, miscreants picked up two students in an auto-rickshaw and took them at an under construction building of Gopalgonj Zilla School. Later,they tied and tortured the male student and raped the female student by seven to eight miscreants.
Mohammad Monir Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Gopalgonj Sadar Police Stadion, confirmed that the university's proctor Dr. Raziur Rahman had filed a case in the incident.
"Three people have been arrested so far. The operation was underway to arrest the rest", he added."The arrestees are Pias Sikder(22),Antar(21) and jeebon(20)",they all are inhabitants of Gopalgonj ".
Students have blocked the busy Dhaka-Khulna highway at Ghonapara in Gopalganj since 7am demanding arrest and exemplary punishment for the rapists.
When the news of rape spread out, the agitated students rushed to Gopalganj Sadar Police Station demanding justice at around 2pm on Wednesday.
