Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Deen Md Nurul Haque said the BSMMU will be developed into a world-class hospital in Asia.

“We’ll continue our efforts to make it a world-class hospital and improve the quality of health service for the patients. High-quality casualty emergency department will be set up in the university. It will reduce pressure of patients at Dhaka Medical College Hospital,” he said.

The BSMMU VC also said efforts will be made to appoint world-class faculty members as short-term trainers to make doctors more efficient, he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Prof Haque made a commitment to make the BSMMU as one of the best medical universities in the world. At the same time, he announced zero tolerance policy against corruption.

The BSMMU VC also said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave me this responsibility to make Sheikh Mujib Medical University a best medical institute not only in Bangladesh but in the whole world. I will try my best to implement the plan.”

He said, “Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina may have appointed me as the Vice Chancellor of the country's first medical university considering my long medical experience, teaching and administrative skills in the medical profession.”

Earlier on March 11, renowned ophthalmologist Prof Haque has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

Prof Haque is scheduled to take charge as new BSSMU vice-chancellor on March 29.
