BSF pushes back 14 thru Mujibnagar border

The Indian Border Guard Force (BSF) pushed back 14 Bangladeshis through Sonapur border in Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur.  Nine men and 5 women were pushback and returned to their homes in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to local sources, the BSF opened the Katatar gate of the Sonapur border at around four o'clock in the night. Meanwhile, 9 men and 5 women entered the Bangladesh border from India. 

They went inside Sonapur village on foot and reached Mujibnagar upazila town Kedarganj by van in the early morning. 

There, local journalists filmed their return to their destination. Some of the pushbacked people, on condition of anonymity, said they were all poor. They went to India long ago in search of work. At one stage of the worker's work there, they were arrested by the Indian police. They were brought to Sonapur border last night after being detained for some time. BSF personnel take their fingerprints there. At one point, BSF opened the gates of Kattar and sent them inside Bangladesh.

Some who returned from India said that their homes are in different areas of Khulna and Jessore. They returned to their destination from Kedarganj early in the morning with various vehicles.

Mujibnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ujjal Dutta said that the police do not have any information about the pushback issue. 

It is not known whether BGB has any information or not.

However, when asked about the pushback, BGB Mujib­nagar Company Commander Subedar Khalek said that we do not have any information about the pushback.
