Indian Border Security Force (BSF) pushed back 19 people at Chanshikari border area in Bholahat upazila of Chapainawabganj early Wednesday, confirmed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The group, which includes six women, ten men, and three children, was detained by BGB around 4:00am after BSF forced them across the border near pillar 119/4.
Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, commanding officer of BGB Battalion 59, confirmed the development and said initial reports suggest all 19 are Bangladeshi citizens.
“They had previously entered India illegally and were arrested by Indian police. After serving prison sentences in different Indian jails, they were pushed back by the BSF,” the BGB official said, adding that necessary legal steps will be taken.
