In the present highly competitive epoch of information technology, spreading practical education has become crucial to face challenges of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) for building a smart Bangladesh.

Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr. Md. Hasibur Rashid viewed this while addressing a function arranged at the 'Rangpur Smart Employment Fair 2023' in the varsity's cafeteria building as the chief guest.

In collaboration with BRUR, the Information and Communication Technology Division, Directorate of Information and Communication Technology and several other institutions including Aspire to Innovate (a2i) jointly organized the daylong event.

Bangladesh Computer Council Regional Director Engineer Md. Aminul Islam presided over the function.

Pro Vice-chancellor of BRUR Professor Dr. Sarifa Salwa Dina addressed the function as special guest.

Director of the Center for Digital Transformation and Head of Department of Computer Science and Engineering of BRUR Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman delivered a welcome speech.

Professor Rashid said it is expected that the 4IR will highly be dependent on technology. As a result, the 4IR will have an impact on improving the quality of life of people as well as social policy and economy.

"In order to sustain oneself in this competitive revolution, practical science and technology based education should be given importance alongside moving towards total digitisation," he said.

He said, "BRUR is the only university free of session congestion among all the public universities of the country. This has become possible due to digitisation which has paved the way for conducting online classes and examinations using digital systems."

Administrative activities will also be totally online in near future, he said.

Professor Dina said, "We are going to build a smart Bangladesh by 2041 next when all people will easily get all the digitised facilities and services."

She urged the young generation to come forward and participate actively in the implementation process of the 4IR on the way to build a smart Bangladesh.
