An exhibition titled ‘Bristite Roder Kona,’ featuring the artwork of the late Kazi Abdul Baset, opened at Bengal Shilpalay in Dhanmondi on Friday. Organized by Bengal Art Gallery, the exhibition highlights the works of the renowned Bangladeshi artist from the 1960s to the 1990s, reflecting his journey in modern painting.

Prominent artist and cartoonist Professor Rafiqun Nabi inaugurated the event as the chief guest, with artist Abul Barq Alvi attending as the special guest. The exhibition has drawn attention for offering a fresh look at Baset's artistic legacy, which remains significant in the evolution of modern art in Bangladesh.

Kazi Abdul Baset (1935-2002) is remembered for his versatile approach to painting, blending local tradition with modern art forms. His early works focused on realistic depictions of nature, but he later moved to explore abstract styles and human figures, often in semi-abstract and abstract forms. The 1960s and 1970s, in particular, marked a phase where abstract expressionism became a defining feature of his art.

Throughout his career, Baset was inspired by themes close to the heart of Bangladesh, including the struggles and resilience of mothers and daughters. One of his famous themes includes the powerful image of a mother waiting for her son to return from war, reflecting the emotional landscape of a nation facing hardship.

‘Bristite Roder Kona’ aims to revive interest in Baset’s work and introduce his unique pictorial language to the younger generation, connecting them to a pivotal era in Bangladeshi art.

The exhibition is open to the public at Kamrul Hasan Gallery, Bengal Shilpalay, every day from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, until January 11, 2025.
