The bridge on Mandar-Ganeshpur road in Mohadevpur Upazila of Nogaon has become a death trap as several parts of the bridge have already damaged. People of Mahadevpur have to travel in a risky manner as the bridge may collapse any moment.
Locals of the area said that many vehicles such as motorbikes, tractors, easybikes frequently use this road for communication. Holes were seen in the bridge six months ago first, since then, many cracks and potholes were created due to lack of maintenance.
Pedestrians of Purbapara area urged authorities concerned to take immediate actions as the condition of the bridge has worsened recently.
“Potholes and cracks are getting bigger and we everyday risk our lives while using this bridge”, a motorcyclist of Mandar area said.
Locals have already put red cloths in front of the bridge to warn the drivers.
Ganeshpur UP Chairman Hanif Uddin said that steps are being taken to repair the bridge.
When contacted, Manda Upazila LGED executive Engineer Shahidul Islam said, “Our department has been informed about the bridge recently. We are assessing the damage and repairing project.”
