The Bangladesh Private Medical Practitioners Association (BPMPA) – the national organisation of the doctors working in the private sector – has demanded incentives for the doctors who are treating Covid-19 patients privately.

At a press conference in the virtual format on Tuesday, the association leaders said over 100 of the 167 doctors who died of Covid-19 were from the private sector.

None of their family members received any incentive, BPMPA Secretary General Dr. Jamal Uddin Chowdhury said while presenting the keynote paper at the briefing.

BPMPA President Prof. Maniruzzaman Bhuiyan, Member of the Parliament Prof. Abdul Aziz, Dr. Gazi Mizanur Rahman, Dr. Kamrul Alam, Dr. Nazrul Islam, and Dr. Salim Chowdhury also spoke at the briefing.

They urged the government to involve the private sector to bring the pandemic under control especially outside Dhaka.

They also reiterated their demand to employ previously selected doctors as non-cadre in 39th BCS in order to meet the shortfall of physicians for treating Covid-19 in government facilities.
