Boro paddy, rice procurement drive begins in Narail

Boro paddy, rice procurement drive of food department began in Sadar upazila of the district on Thursday amid much enthusiasm.

Sources said the government has fixed a target to procure a total of 6796 tonnes of paddy from the farmers and 4727 tonnes of rice from the millers in three upazilas of the district during the current Boro season. On Thursday 11:30 am, Boro paddy and rice procurement drive was launched at sadar godown of the town here.

A discussion was held in the sadar upazila godown on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Habibur Rahman attended the function as the chief guest while Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sadia Islam presided over the ceremony.District Awami League secretary and sadar upazila parishad chairman Nizam Uddin Khan Nilu, District Food Controller Anirban Bhadra,Sadar upazila Agriculture Officer Mohammad Rokonuzzaman among others were present as special guests. Upazila Food Controller Md Monirul Islam conducted the function.

Later the DC formally inaugurated paddy, rice procurement drive through purchasing rice from the millers and paddy from the farmers.

Earlier,5,213 farmers’ applied for the registration to sell their paddy through online apps namely “Krishoker Apps” and the farmers selection was made through online lottery system in cooperation with sadar upazila administration.

Talking to the BSS, District Food Controller Anirban Bhadra said as many as 3055 tonnes of Boro paddy and 2509 tonnes of Boro rice would be procured from the Sadar upazila this year.

Price of per kg of Boro paddy has also been fixed at TK 27 and price of rice per kg fixed at TK 40 and the procurement drive in other two upazilas of the district would begin immediately, he concluded.
