Though l more than one lakh hectares of boro paddy left to be harvested in 11 southern districts, cyclone Amphan is coming. It did not rain in the south, including the coast, until noon on Tuesday, but there were clouds in the sky. The meteorological department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rains across the southern part of the country.

In addition, the meteorological department said that due to the cyclone, the sea level rose and various areas of the coast might be flooded by 4-6 feet higher than normal tides.

As a result, the worries of the farmers in the south are getting deeper and deeper. However, with the onset of cyclone Amphan in the South Bay of Bengal, all the district and upazila administrations in the south and the Department of Agricultural Extension have already mobilized farmers to harvest paddy in the field. But new dangers have arisen with the preservation of this fabricated paddy including threshing.

As boro cultivation is delayed in the southern part of the undeveloped lowlands, its cutting is delayed. According to him, boro paddy harvesting never ends in this region before the middle of Jaistho. But this time, even though the paddy has been harvested in advance to protect it from Amphan, the quality of the rice is also in doubt as it has not reached maturity.

In addition, as fast as it is possible to harvest these paddy, as it is not maturing, there will be a crisis in threshing and storage will be difficult. In addition, as of noon on Tuesday, there are about 17 per cent boro paddy fields in 6 districts of Barisal division and about 16 per cent more in Faridpur region.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension, this time the Ministry of Agriculture has set a target of getting about 17 lakh tonnes of rice through boro cultivation in about 125,000 hectares in 6 districts of Barisal division and more than 1.5 lakh hectares in 5 districts of greater Faridpur.
