Boro harvesting was started in Jhenaidah village on Monday. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mozibor Rahman inaugurated the sample harvesting presenting himself as the chief guest at farmer Nazir Uddin’s plot at Sadhuhati village of Jhenidah Sadar upazila.
Deputy Director (DD) of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Jhenaidah Asgar Ali, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in Jhenidah Sadar SM Shahin, Upazila Agriculture Officer (UAO) Zahidul Karim, farmer Nazir Uddin and a number of female and male farmers remain present there.
DC Mozibur Rahman thanking the farmers, said they have been producing huge food grains in the country applying modern technology and equipments where the DAE and other agriculture sections have been providing assistance. Now they have to ensure safer food for the better health of the nation as well as export the same abroad that might bring foreign currency for the country.
DAE sources said the farmers in Jhenaidah Sadar, Kaliganj, Kotchandpur, Moheshpur, Shailkupa and Harinakudu brought a total of 80,284 hectares of land under Boro farming in the season. BRRI 28, 88 and some other varieties were considered profitable for the farmers, sources said.
