The Bogra-Sirajganj railway is going to see the light of day. The construction work of the railway is starting this year. A meeting was held with the MPs, deputy commissioners, upazila chairmen and Awami League leaders of Bogura and Sirajganj districts at the Railway Ministry in Dhaka on April 12.

After the meeting, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan MP visited the site in person on Saturday. He visited Bogra railway station, various railway gates and stations of Bogura-Sirajganj railway station.

Earlier, he told reporters at Bogura station that the Bogura-Sirajganj railway was a long time demand of the people of the region. At present, passengers from the north have to travel around Ishwardi, 120 km via Natore and 112 km through Bogra to reach Dhaka. If this road is constructed, it will be 70 kilometers directly.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced this project which is now being implemented. A consultant has already been appointed and it is being decided from which direction the railway line will go,” he said.

He said that he had called everyone to Dhaka earlier.

“After that meeting, I went in person to see the advantages and disadvantages of building a railway. After discussing the matter, I will go to Dhaka and take the final decision. We will do our best to start the construction work as soon as possible this year,” he said.

If the Bogura-Sirajganj railway project is implemented, the distance of Dhaka with different northern districts including Bogura will be reduced.
