Police have recovered the body of a five-year-old boy, Nayon Shikdar, who had been missing since Friday morning from Surigati village under Chitalmari upazila in Bagerhat. His body was found inside a fish enclosure belonging to one Shanto Halder around 7 a.m. on Saturday.

The deceased, Nayon, was the son of Mosharraf Shikdar of the same village. Police sent the body to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

According to Nayon’s grandfather, Mahbub Mridha, Mosharraf was previously married to a woman named Rebeca, with whom he had two daughters and a son. After their separation, Mosharraf married Mahbub’s daughter, Nadira alias Farzana, about six years ago. Farzana had an eight-year-old son from her previous marriage with Azijul Sheikh of Umajuri village.

Since their marriage, Mosharraf and Farzana had been living near a fish enclosure in Surigati village. On Friday morning around 9 a.m., their son Nayon went missing. After failing to locate him despite extensive searches, Farzana filed a written complaint with Chitalmari Police Station in the evening. Police began a search but were unable to find the child that night.

The next morning, local resident Akash Halder discovered the child’s body while working in his uncle Shanto Halder’s fish enclosure and immediately alerted the family and police.

Chitalmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rokeya Khanam said the body was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination. “Necessary action will be taken based on the autopsy report,” she added.
