Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Boalmari upazila in Faridpur, offered unconditional apology to the High Court on Tuesday (June 21) for ill-treating and threatening two court officials on April 27 this year.

The High Court bench of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Rajik Al Jalil is likely to hear the matter.

Earlier on June 7, the High Court summoned the UNO and his nazir Ukil Mia on charges of mistreating and intimidating two court notice issuers- Md Kamal Hossain and Mehedi Hasan.

At the same time, the court also issued a rule asking why punitive action would not be taken against them for contempt of court. Those concerned were asked to respond to the rule.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin and deputy attorney general Tushar Kanti Roy were present before the court that day.

The incident was reported to the Registrar General of the Supreme Court in writing from the Faridpur Senior District and Sessions Judge’s Court. The Chief Justice then referred the matter to the High Court bench for hearing and disposal.

It was learnt from the notification letter sent from Boalmari court that on April 27, Boalmari Senior Assistant Judge issued a notice in the civil case (53/2022). Kamal Hossain and Mehedi Hasan went to the office of the UNO with the notice, but he kept busy. When they went to his office again around four in the afternoon, he got excited and asked them to go upstairs and sit down.
