Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem has said that while the coronavirus crisis is wreaking havoc, floods have started again across the country.

One thing that is particularly noteworthy is that the government has shown great efficiency in tackling the two crises simultaneously. On the other hand, BNP has been trying to confuse common people of the country with online statements while sitting at home, he added.

He said these while laying the foundation stone of Sureshwar-Vedarganj-Damudya-Gosairhat-Charmanpura road on Monday.

Under the important Upazila and Union Road Widening and Strengthening Project of Dhaka Division, the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is implementing the 9050-meter road at a cost of Taka 11 crore 77 lakh 15 thousand.

Shahjahan Farji, Executive Engineer, Shariatpur Local Government Engineering Department, Md  Shahabuddin Khan, Upazila Engineer, Master Hasanuzzaman Khokon, General Secretary, Upazila Awami League, Shahidul Islam Babu Rari, Mayor of Naria Municipality and other leaders of Upazila Awami League and its affiliates were present on the occasion.

Later, the minister, on behalf of Begum Ashrafunnesa Foundation established in the name of her mother, distributed saree, lungi and food aid among 5,005 flood-affected families of Naria Upazila and Sakhipur Police Station. AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem handed over these saris, lungis and pulses, salt, oil, potatoes and other food items to the beneficiaries among the flood victims in Banglabazar area of Naria Upazila Gharisha Union in Shariatpur.
