A human chain was held in Chattogram’s Pahartali area demanding the conversion of the long-abandoned nearly 6-acre Haji Camp into a modern hospital and medical college.
The programme was organised on Friday under the banner of the people of greater Pahartali. Leaders and activists of BNP along with local residents, professionals, religious figures, and people from various walks of life took part in the event, initiated by the member secretary of Ward No. 12 Sarai Para BNP, Fakhrul Hasan Chowdhury Raju.
Speakers said the Haji Camp has remained abandoned and dilapidated for years and has now become a hub for drug abuse and criminal activities, increasing insecurity in the area and leading to incidents of theft, mugging, and other crimes.
Call for Public Healthcare Facility
Chief guest and Chattogram Metropolitan BNP member secretary Nazimur Rahman said it is unfortunate that such a large government property has remained unused for years.
He said, “A modern hospital is now a timely demand for the people of Pahartali and surrounding areas. If a hospital and medical college are established here, it will ensure public healthcare, create employment, and improve overall development in the region.”
He said, there is a long-standing shortage of specialized healthcare services in northern Chattogram. Therefore, urgent steps are needed to utilize the abandoned facility for public welfare.
Leaders Present
Among others present at the programme were Haji Babul Haque, BNP leader Didar Rahman Suman, former SP Kamrul Hasan, 9 No ward BNP Convener Raihan Uddin Pradhan, former 11 No ward BNP Convener Saiful Alam, Member Secretary Nur Selim Bangali, Senior Joint Convener of 12 No ward Sarai Para BNP Mojibul Haque Maju, 22nd Enayet Bazar Ward BNP Joint Convener Osman Sarwar Sentu, former General Secretary of Chattogram Metropolitan Jubo Dal Tanvir Mallik, member secretary of Pahartali Thana Jubo Dal Raju Khan, Convener of Swechasebak Dal Nantu, along with leaders of BNP and allied organizations.
