As part of the party’s move to intensify its ongoing anti-government movement, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) plans to declare tough programs like protest rallies and long marches in order to force the government to step down immediately and hand over power to a non-party administration ahead of the country’s general elections.

The Election Commission (EC) has constitutional obligation to conduct the 12th national polls between November, 2023 and January 29, 2024. Keeping this in mind, the commission is working hard to arrange the next general elections in a free, fair and participatory manner.

A peaceful environment is prevailing in the country. But the BNP is involved in conspiracy to destroy the fair and peaceful environment and create unrest centring the upcoming national polls.

BNP’s most leaders want to participate in the polls though the party’s high command and senior leaders are telling to boycott the elections. We saw the leaders of BNP had taken part in other polls independently. BNP leaders are also running for the city polls and discussions are being held centering the polls.

We hope that the BNP will take part

in the polls instead of hatching

 conspiracy to destroy the

country’s democratic process.

Countrymen think many leaders of the party (BNP) would take part in the polls wearing masks. As the BNP and its allies boycotted the January 5 national parliament elections in 2014, its all tiers leaders from grassroots to central, got frustrated and accused the party’s high command and some influential leaders of taking such suicidal decision.

The party had also an evil intention to make the December 30 general election questionable and it is still trying to do so. This also made the party’s active leaders and activists demoralised across the country. The party also became isolated from the mass people as it had only seven representations in the present parliament.

But its all seven members of parliament (MPs) resigned from the Jatiya Sangsad on December 10 last year.

We think the party would not be able to prevent their leaders from participating in polls this time, if BNP boycott the next general elections.

The commission will organise the polls and the government will provide all out cooperation to hold a free, fair and neutral elections. Local and foreign observers will observe the polls.  Therefore, we hope that the BNP will take part in the polls instead of hatching conspiracy to destroy the country’s democratic process.
