When diplomats of different countries continue to greet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her party Awami League’s (AL) absolute victory in the 12th parliamentary elections, BNP on Monday, the day after the polls, demanded cancellation of the election results and resignation of Sheikh Hasina’s government.

Local and foreign observers, who witnessed the national election of Bangladesh, termed the poll free, fair and peaceful. But, BNP renews its demand for fresh election under a non-party poll-time government to establish a legitimate and accountable government. We think BNP’s such demand for fresh polls under a caretaker government is completely unconstitutional and illegal.

The government was committed to hold the national polls in a ‘free, fair and peaceful’ manner with the participation of people. And the ruling AL fulfilled its commitment before the nation and the world as well.

It is now clear to all that there had been no foreign pressure for restoration of the caretaker government system in Bangladesh. European Union, the USA, the UK or no other countries put pressure on Bangladesh to restore the caretaker government system. And no country in the world interfered in internal matters of Bangladesh.

Local and foreign observers, who witnessed the

election of Bangladesh, termed the poll as

free, fair, peaceful, successful

The 12th national election was held in a free, fair and peaceful manner. The election was held here like that in in other democratic countries of the world.

So, BNP leaders should get rid of the ‘ghost’ of the caretaker government system. There is no caretaker government anywhere in the world except Pakistan.

Therefore, it is a big question why BNP follows Pakistan too much. The caretaker government system is now dead. It will never be restored in Bangladesh.

It is now use dreaming of fresh election like Pakistan. BNP joined the 2018 general elections. BNP took part in the 2018 general election. But the party withdrew from the poll race midway to everybody’s surprise. BNP activists torched 500 polling centers and killed many people, including several polling officers, in arson attacks in the name of resisting the nation polls of 2014.

A party is responsible for making an election non-participatory when it boycotts elections or tries to thwart it. People of the country had wanted the future government to be elected through a participatory, free, fair and transparent election.

And people’s wishes have been fulfilled through Sunday’s national election. So, BNP must discard their fresh demand for restoration of the caretaker government system as it (system) has been sent to the museum following a court order.
