Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque said the BNP-led alliance, so-called civil society members and anti-liberation forces are trying to gain interests by spreading rumors and confusions among the people about commodity prices.

"BNP's movement and hunger strike centering commodity prices don't suit them rather they should be ashamed. We can produce evidences from the newspapers and records that during their regime from 2001 to 2006, the country witnessed monga (severe food crisis) every year," he said.

Dr Md Abdur Ra made the remarks while addressing the triennial conference of Dhanbari upazila AL at Dhanbari Government College ground here.

The evil forces had destroyed images of the country and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by spreading propaganda of famine by getting Basanti of Kurigram worn fishing net purposefully in 1974, he said.

Like that period, BNP and the evil forces are still trying to spread rumors and propaganda centering the prices of daily essentials and create a 'Basanti plot' to go to power by making the people confused, the AL leader added.

Noting that not a single person has died due to food crisis in the last 13 years during the AL tenure, Razzaque said, "There is still no news that anyone has died from starvation. In-Sha-Allah, it will never happen. No one will die without food during Awami League regimes".

Though prices of some commodities have soared recently due to the Ukraine-Russia war, there is no food crisis in the country, the minister said, adding, "No such situation has been created in the country centering food for which hunger strikes, human chains or movements are needed".

Addressing the conference as the chief guest, AL Presidium Member Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Faruk Khan, MP, said the country has been transformed into a food exporting one from the country of monga under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. But it is a matter of sorrow that when the country's people move forward, the world community acknowledges that Bangladesh is moving towards development and has become a role model of development, he said, the BNP-Jamaat clique inside the country spreads rumors and falsehood and hatches conspiracies to push the people back.

AL Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam, MP, Forestry and Environmental Affairs Secretary Delwar Hossain, Education and Human Resource Affairs Secretary Shamsun Nahar Chapa and central working committee member Riazul Kabir Kawsar addressed the conference as special guests.

Tangail district AL President Fazlur Rahman Khan Faruque inaugurated the conference while General Secretary Md Joaherul Islam, MP, addressed as the chief speaker with Dhanbari upazila AL President Harunar Rashid Hira in the chair.
