Awami League Joint General Secretary and information minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said there are many BNP leaders, who only held press briefings, remaining in the safety of their homes and blamed the government.

They did not come forward with the view of helping people in this crisis situation while Leaders and activists of Awami League and members of some voluntary organizations stayed are by the side of the people all over the country, he added.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a programme while distributing medical equipment to Rangunia Health Complex at Rangunia Upazila Auditorium in Chattogram on Saturday.

Information minister said that BNP leaders are just sitting at home and criticizing the government. The Awami League and the government are not sitting still. He further said, “I also know what can happen if I get infected, still I don’t sit by myself, rather I am working in the field with all the preparations”.

Requesting the party leaders and workers to be by the side of the people, Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed the leaders and workers of the Awami League to be by the side of the people. “We are by the side of the people following the instructions and will continue to do so in the future.

That is why many leaders of our party have been affected by Corona and many have died. Death can happen at any time, so it will not be possible for me to sit during this plight of the people”, he said.

The minister also said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is trying her best to save the people of the country from Corona virus. She is working day and night to protect the people, so that there is no food crisis, the poor people do not suffer in any way. The capacity and capability to deal with corona virus has also increased in the country.

He said, now we are making arangements to provide treatment at the upazila level as well. Many of the difficulties that existed in the treatment of corona patients in Chittagong have already been overcome and will get better in a few days.

The previous crisis and frustration have been cut off a lot. The government has undertaken a program to streamline all the health services up to the upazila level of the country under the Ministry of Health with the aim of reshaping the health complexes in a new way so that they can be given better treatment in future.

He said more than 60,000 families in Rangunia have been provided with food aid and the relief activities are still ongoing. Thousands of people have been rescued through family welfare organization NNK Foundation. As long as the corona crisis exists, the government is by the side of the people.

“I have undertaken some work at Rangunia Health Complex with the aim of giving proper treatment to Corona patients. An isolation center has already been set up there, which will be modernized with air-conditioning by increasing the number of beds and providing necessary health protection equipment including oxygen cylinders”, he said.

Rangunia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Masudur Rahman presided over the function. Upazila Vice Chairman Md. Shafiqul Islam, ASP Abul Kalam Azad, Divisional Forest Officer Abu Naser Mohammad Yasin Newaz, Upazila Health Officer Rehanul Islam, Upazila AL unit General Secretary Engineer Shamsul Alam Talukder and others were present at the time.
