Published : 02 Mar 2022 09:51 PM

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said that since the BNP is isolated from the people, they are afraid of the election and that is why they are raising various questions about the Election Commission. "They have nothing to do with the people, they have thrown petrol bombs, they have moved away from the people with destructive politics, so they don't really want to vote," he said.

He was responding to reporters' questions about the BNP's various comments on the upcoming parliamentary elections at the Bangladesh Press Institute-PIB in the capital's Kakrail are on Wednesday afternoon.

Dr. Hasan said, "BNP does not want to hold elections because they are respecting their leader Begum Khaleda Zia. They are saying that she and Tareq Rahman will not be able to hold elections according to the law of Bangladesh as they are convicted accused in the court. Since neither of them can get elected, the BNP has no interest in holding elections. The election-time government they are talking about is just an excuse. People know that they tried to prevent the election in 2014. They also announced that they would boycott the 2016 elections and later participated in the elections with the intention of making the election controversial.

Mentioning that Dr Jafrullah Chowdhury used to speak as a guest on various events of BNP and everyone knows him as an advisor of BNP, the Information and Broadcasting Minister said that he was satisfied with the appointment of CEC from Dr Jafrullah's list and expressed confidence in all parties including BNP Called. Now BNP is also denying Dr Jafrullah.

Dr Hasan Mahmud commented, " BNP denies almost everyone. At some point for some reason, the BNP may also deny Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir."

Earlier, the Information and Broadcasting Minister addressed a seminar on 'Role of Presenters in Practicing Pure Bengali Language and Culture' organized by News Broadcasters Alliance Bangladesh-NBA as the chief guest. He said that 34 crore people of the world speak Bengali language which is the pride of Bengalis and bangla language ranks seventh in terms of population. Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore was the first person outside Europe to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.

The minister said that our forefathers gave their lives to preserve the dignity of the language, it is very sad to dissect that language by distorting it arbitrarily. It is very important to present pure Bengali in news presentation and all programmes and in this case media houses have many responsibilities, it is not only the responsibility of the news reader or reader. Therefore, it is important to organize regular training. The well-known faces of the news presenters can contribute a lot in the formation of a developed nation as well as a developed state through pure pronunciation, he said.

The minister added that the journey of private television started with the hand of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after she formed the government in 1996. Now there are 45 licensed TV channels. With so many television channels, so many media workers have been created, so many news readers have been created and your organization has been born. Surely Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina deserves to be thanked for this.

NBA President Mumtazina Hasnat Ritu presided over the seminar while PIB Director General Zafar Wazed, eminent journalist Syed Ishtiaq Reza and Manash Ghosh addressed the seminar as special guests. Presenter Zafar Sadiq read the main article. At that time, the minister handed over the identity cards given by the organization to the members.
