BNP Chairperson's Adviser and Chattogram North District BNP Convener Golam Akbar Khandaker was injured as his convoy came under attack in Raozan on Tuesday afternoon.
Several other BNP supporters were also injured in the attack.
According to party sources, the attack occurred around 4:30 pm at the entrance to Raozan after the convoy crossed into the area from Hathazari upazila.
Golam Akbar Khandaker was on the way to visit the grave of former Raozan Upazila BNP President Mohiuddin Ahmed, as part of a pre-scheduled BNP programme in front of Halda Bridge in Raozan municipality.
According to police, the attackers vandalised Golam Akbar's personal vehicle as well as the vehicle of the Raozan Police Station OC.
Four motorcycles belonging to Khandaker's supporters were set on fire, and three others were reportedly stolen.
Tension has been simmering in the area since the incident.
Eyewitnesses and victims have blamed the followers of BNP Central Vice Chairman Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury — an internal rival of Khandaker — for the attack.
The two factions have long been locked in a power struggle within the local BNP leadership, with past clashes resulting in casualties.
Following the attack, Golam Akbar Khandaker shared images on his Facebook page around 6:30pm, showing damage to vehicles and visible injuries to his neck.
The injured were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment.
Speaking to reporters, Khandaker said, "Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury's men were creating unrest throughout the day. I had informed the police before attending the programme. They assured me everything was fine. But as soon as we entered Raozan, a group of 50 to 60 people attacked our vehicles with sticks and weapons."
Attempts to reach BNP leader Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury for comment were unsuccessful, as his mobile phone remained switched off.
Multiple calls to Raozan OC Mir Mahbubur Rahman also went unanswered.
