BNACWC’s general meeting held

The 16th general meeting of Bangladesh National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC) was held at Armed Forces Division (AFD) in Dhaka Cantonment on Tuesday. 

Newly-appointed Chairman of BNACWC and Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of AFD Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman chaired the meeting, said an ISPR release.

Members of BNACWC from various ministries, organizations and armed forces joined the online event. BNACWC members reviewed the present activities of BNACWC and discussed about the future road map to implement Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) in Bangladesh. 

Armed forces, Fire Service and Civil Defence and Bangladesh Police apprised the meeting about their capacity building activities.

Representative from customs apprised the house about the upgradation of their chemical laboratories for identification of schedule chemicals at the ports. 

Meeting discussed about the requirement of having a national policy along with a coordinating body to ensure better chemical safety and security management in Bangladesh. 

BNACWC Chairman Lt Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman emphasized on the requirement of international cooperation for capacity building regarding chemical safety and security management. 

He opined for the continuation of capacity building programmes via online platform during COVID situation.

The meeting ended with a understanding for working together to ensure chemical safety in Bangladesh.
