Birthday celebration of Mamunur Rashid

National Film Award winning actor, director and playwright Mamunur Rashid turns 72 today, but is celebrating only his 18th birthday, as his birthday falls on February 29, and comes only on leap years.

To mark the occasion, theatre troupe Aranyak Natya Dal has organised a six-day programme titled ‘Droho Dah Swapner Natya Ayojon’ begun on Wednesday on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital’s Segun Bagicha area.  

Mamunur Rashid was born to his father, Harunur Rashid Khan and his mother, Rokeya Khanom in Kalihati of Tangail district. He is the elder son of the family among his five siblings.

He has a daughter named Kochi and a son named Pallab. Manunur Rashid-acted first TV drama was ‘Kobor’, scripted by Munier Chowdhury and directed by Abdullah Al Mamun. His debut directorial stage play was ‘Mohabiplop’ (1965) and till now, he has directed more than 20 plays on the stage.

He-directed last drama serial is ‘Altur Cycle’. Mamunur Rashid was bestowed with the National Film Award for playing a role in Gias Uddin Selim-directed film ‘Monpora’.
