Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi’s Sunday meeting with Indian Commerce and Trade Secretary Anup Wadhawan will open a new door of trade relations between the two countries ahead of the 50th year of Bangladesh’s independence.

We believe the two countries --Bangladesh and India will resolve the existing problems in order to expand investment and trade relations further.

Besides, efforts are on to sign Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with India to further enhance the scope for trade.

Therefore, we believe our neighbour will offer the olive branch to remove various obstacles and difficulties for reducing the wide trade gap marking the 50th year of Bangladesh’s independence.

We hope that fresh trade opportunities will be

created through signing of various PTAs and FTAs

In this regard, Bangladesh will have to modernise its customs management and Benapole Land Port in order to ensure smooth trading.

On the other hand, this is a good piece of news for the both countries that the existing border haats have created much more interest among the people of the bordering areas.

Apart from these, the introduction of railways has facilitated trade between the two countries.

The Bangladesh government would sign the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with various countries including India to successfully face the challenges derived from the country’s graduation from the LDC status.

So, we hope that fresh trade opportunities will be created through signing of various PTAs and FTAs.

And Bangladesh-India will take the trade relations to such a position in our 50th year of independence which would remain as memorable among the people of both countries.
