The long-awaited days of port users are coming to an end.  The 10-meter depth and 200-meter length vessel will officially start after the trial run on Sunday.  Larger ships will arrive at Jetty 9-13 and CCT and NCT jetties of the port.  The port is about to enter a new era of this journey.  Opportunities will increase for port users.

Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Md. Omar Faruq said that all preparations have been made for launching large ships.  Large ships will be anchored in the port on a trial basis.  Big ships will officially start moving.

Our skilled pilots are also ready.  Hence it will be possible to transport more containers from now on.  The problem of ship congestion in the port for a long time will be over now.  Shipping traders said that our importers and exporters will benefit financially if the movement of large ships starts.  Congestion at the port will be reduced.  At one time, only 7 meter draft ships used to come to Chattogram port.  Since 2014, ships with a depth of 9 meters and a length of 190 meters have been arriving at the port jetty.

According to the survey report, ships with a draft of 10 meters and a length of 200 meters can be handled using the existing infrastructure of the port.

However, dredging at two points of the river with some work on the bend near the outer anchorage and Guptakhal will make it possible to accommodate ships of 225 meters in length and 11 meters draft in the port channel.  After that, the port began to increase the depth in the mouth of Karnaphuli river.

The port authority will take another step towards success by anchoring large ships at the port jetty on January 16.

The London-based company 'HR Walling Ford' has conducted a survey on three issues for the past one year.  At present, the condition of the channel and the way the jetty is, how much depth and length of ships can be accommodated in the port, how much space on the two banks of the port can be used for the expansion of the jetty or yard and what kind of steps can be taken to accommodate the maximum depth and length of the ships in the port.
