The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the anti-graft watchdog of the country, is determined to curb corruption from Bangladesh at any cost at the beginning of the New Year 2022. Since its inception on 9 May in 2004, the institution has been trying to combat corruption and promote good practices as well till date. But it has been noticed that the anti-graft watchdog has failed to achieve its cherished goal of making Bangladesh a graft free country as a number of most-wanted corruption suspects still remain untouched or have fled overseas. Therefore, if the ‘big fishes’ behind all illegal businesses are not netted or brought to book immediately, the small fishes will be encouraged to become like the big ones.
Many public representatives, government officials and staffs and political leaders who have amassed huge sums of wealth, laundered money at home and siphoned off money abroad, have not been brought to book yet.
We all should work in
unison with the government
against corruption
The ACC took action against some corrupts and it has imposed travel bans on those involved with illegal business and other corruption. However, the commission must keep on chasing the corrupt people at the beginning of the New Year alongside taking the move under its one-year strategic work plan to gear up anti-corruption activities and strengthen its capacity to deal with top graft suspects.
The ACC will have to prepare a fresh and updated list of top graft suspects alongside corrupt individuals through its intelligence unit in order to launch probe against them for effectively fighting corruption in different sectors. Simultaneously, we all should work in unison with the government against corruption to eradicate this menace in the way militancy and terrorism were eliminated with collective efforts.
The ACC should launch awareness campaigns and build social resistance against corruption at all strata of life. We believe that on the very first day of this year, the national anti-graft watchdog will be hunting down those who had amassed wealth illegally through committing various corruptions and irregularities.
The fight against corruption cannot be carried out by the government alone. We need to forge national unity against all sorts of corruptions, misdeeds and irregularities. We have to boycott the corruption and corrupt individuals socially.
