A bicycle rally covering some 60-kilometres of roads was held demanding to save the Barind region from the adverse impact of climate change.
The bicycle rally organised jointly by BARSIC, a non-governmental research organisation and the Barendra Region Jubo Sangathan Forum, started from Rajshahi City at 7-00 AM Saturday and it traversed various villages of Tanore upazila creating mass awareness there. Later, around 11-00 AM the rally converged at Gokul-Mothura village where a meeting and protest programme was held.
The participants in the meeting brandished red cards towards the rich countries responsible for excessive Carbon dioxide in the air and demanded through songs, poems, cycling and sports to take appropriate steps to save the Barind region as well as the globe from an impending climatic disaster. More than 100 youngmen from 30 voluntary organisations participated in the programme.
Presided over by Convener of Barendra Region Jubo Sangathan Forum Rubel Hossain Mintu, the programme was attended and addressed, among others, by BARSIC Researcher and Regional Co-ordinator Shahidul Islam, Shaikh Tasnim Jamal and Vice-President of Adivashi Chhatra Parishad, central committee Sabitree Hembrom while folk-poet Afaz Uddin Kabiraj recited the protest-poem.
