Bhairab river excavation to be completed in stipulated time

State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Farooq has said Bhairab river excavation will be completed within the stipulated time. He gave instruction to the officials of the Water Development Board while inspecting the work of water conservation and sustainable water management development project, in the Bhairab River Basin area in Jashore on Thursday afternoon. 

All small bridges on Bhairab River will be removed. The excavation work of the 96-kilometer long Bhairab River at a cost of Tk 272 crore is underway. After the excavation is completed, there will be a positive change in the socio-economic sectors including agriculture, fisheries, naval communication system.  The minister said that if the development role model of the present government were implemented, the people of this region would be able to enjoy the benefits. When the river is fully excavated, trade and commerce will spread in the region. 

After excavating, small boats and steamers will be able to operate on the Bhairab River. This will facilitate the transportation of goods. At the inter ministry meeting the decision was taken to remove the small bridge and construct a larger bridge. Later the state minister visited the Bhabodahah area.   

State Minister for LGRD Swapan Bhattacharya, Director General (DG) of Water Development Board Mahfuzur Rahman, Additional Director Habibur Rahman, Chief Engineer of Khulna Siddikur Rahman, Superintendent Engineer Syed Hasan Imam, Additional Deputy commissioner (ADC) of  Jashore Rafiqul Hasan were present among others at the time.
