A total of 179 armed BGP Myanmar personnel had fled to Bangladesh through the Ashartali border till Monday night due to the ongoing clashes between the Myanmar Army and rebel group Arakan Army in Rakhine state.

Another 150 members of the BGP crossed the border and moved to Naikhongchhari by 8:00pm on Monday.

Earlier, 29 BGP members entered Bangladesh through the Naikhongchhari border around 12 noon on Monday.

So, in one day, 179 BGP members fled and took refuge in Bangladesh.

BGB members disarmed them and took them into custody. BGB’s Naikhongchhari battalion captain and senior officers visited the area.

Meanwhile, Saber Hossain, a UP member of Naikhongchhari, who was injured in firing from across the border, is undergoing treatment at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. Doctors said that his current condition is safe.

Before this, a total of 330 BGP members of Myanmar took shelter in Bangladesh after being unable to withstand the attack of the Arakan Army in several phases from

February 4 to 10. Later on February 15, they were handed over to the Myanmar authorities from the Inani naval jetty in Ukhyia.

The injured Saber Hossain said “I went to the border of Jamchari area to inquire about the BGP members who fled to Bangladesh to save their lives from Myanmar. I was standing near the Zero Line on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border while making a phone call when a bullet hit my left knee.”

Meanwhile, massive firing is going on inside Myanmar across the Jamchari border in Naikhongchhari upazila. The sound of gunfire again created panic among the residents of the border from 4:00 pm on Monday.

Locals said that UP member Saber Hossain went to Jamchari BGB border post area and inquired about BGP members who fled from Myanmar. At that time, some local journalists were also with him. A bullet suddenly hit Saber Hossain’s left knee.

Later, local journalists rescued him and took him to the upazila health center.

Naikhongchhari Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Abu Zafar Mohammad Selim said that Saber Hossain, a UP member who was shot at the border, was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital after first treatment.

The Myanmar nationals started fleeing to Bangladesh on February 4 as the ongoing fighting between the Myanmar junta and the Arakan Army escalated across the border at Bandarban and Cox's Bazar.
