BGB personnel recovered four lakh yaba pills after a shootout with drug traffickers at the Ukhia border in Cox's Bazar. BGB Cox's Bazar 34 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed at a press briefing said the operation was conducted at midnight on Wednesday in Chakbaitha area of Ratnapalang Union in Ukhia upazila on the Myanmar border.

He said it was not possible to arrest anyone as the smugglers fled during the operation.

Lt. Colonel Ali Haider said a team of BGB's Reju-Amtali BOP took up position at midnight on Wednesday after receiving tips of a large consignment of yaba coming from Myanmar through the Chakbaitha border in Ratnapalang union of Ukhia. At one stage, BGB members saw 8 to 10 suspects coming from Myanmar and ordered them to stop. The traffickers started firing and BGB personnel also fired back in self-defense.

"At one stage, the smugglers tried to escape by dropping six small bags wrapped in clothes on their bodies. The BGB members chased them and the smugglers fled across the border in the dark. Later, the smugglers' bags were recovered and 4 lakh yaba was recovered," Ali Haidar said.

“The recovered yaba pills are kept in the BGB battalion office,” he added.
