BGB seizes 2 kg crystal meth, 90,000 yaba pills in Bandarban

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 2 kg of crystal meth (ice) worth Tk 21 crore, along with 90,000 pieces of yaba after conducting a drive at Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban district.

Md Shariful Islam, Public Relation Officer of BGB headquarters, confirmed the matter at a press release on Friday.

It was said in the press release that BGB Cox’s Bazar Battalion (BGB-34) got secret information through their own intelligence that a large shipment of drugs was being smuggled in Bangladesh from Myanmar on Thursday night. The shipment was coming through the Rejupara border in Naikhongchhari Upazila of Bandarban district. Acting on the information, a special team of Rejupara BOP led by Battalion Captain Abdullah Al Mashruki took position between two hills in Footer Jhiri area. The BGB patrol team noticed several people coming through the area at around 1:00am and challenged them. Sensing the presence of BGB members, they fled to the hills taking the advantage of the darkness of night, leaving a bag behind them.

Later, the BGB patrol team recovered the bag and found 2 kg of crystal meth worth Tk 21 crore, along with 90,000 pieces of yaba inside it.

Although the BGB team conducted drive in that area till midnight, it was not possible to detain anyone in this connection. However, activities of BGB to identify the people connected with smuggling are ongoing, the press release added.
