Chuadanga BGB battalion members detained one person with 58 gold bars worth about tk. 6,60,35,740 Tk and a motor cycle near Indian border of Nastipur village in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district on Thursday.
The detained person is identified as Rokibul Islam, son of Abdul Hay of village Nastipur in Damurhuda upazila of the district.
BGB battalion-6 Lieutenant Colonel Shah Istiak said local journalists on the day afternoon; somebody was going to India from Bangladesh to carry gold bars.
On information, a team of Baradi-Fulbari BOP, led by Habildar Julhasuddin, raided the area. A motorcyclist was crossing the area.
BGB team intercepted the motor cycle. Rokibul, the smuggler tried to escape by running from the area leaving motor cycle after seeing BGB tean.
But BGB personnel caught him, seized the motor cycle and after searching the motor cycle, recovered the gold bars.
A case was filed with Darshana Police Station. The detained Rakibul was handed over to police. The gold bar was deposited to Chuadanga Treasury Office.
