BGB destroys Tk4.07 crore drugs in Rajshahi

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) destroyed a large quantity of seized drugs worth Taka 4.07 crore here on Thursday.

The border guards have recently seized 64,905 bottles Phensedyl, 2.51 kg of heroin, 1,201 bottles of foreign wine, 65.5 litres of liquor, 19,760 yaba pills, 144.45 kg ganja, 90,020 sedative tablets, 4,125 ampoules of sedative injections and 144 kg insecticides from different areas in Rajshahi, said Lt Col Ferdous Ziauddin Mahmud, commanding officer of BGB 1 Battalion. The drugs were destroyed at the BGB Battalion headquarters in the presence of BGB officials and district and police administration, he said.

BGB Regional Commander Brig Gen Kaiser Hassan Malique, Chairman of Rajshahi Education Board Prof Mokbul Hossain and Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shahidullah joined the programme.  On the occasion, a large number of students took oath against drug-addiction.

They also brought out a rally on the nearby roads aimed at creating mass-awareness against the social crime.
