Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has approved a budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year, but it faces a significant shortfall of Tk 22.2 crore. This news emerged during a general meeting held at a Dhaka hotel on Sunday.

Despite the deficit, the BFF Finance Committee Chairman, Abdus Salam Murshedi, expressed confidence in bridging the gap. He revealed plans to approach the Ministry of Youth and Sports for financial assistance.

"We have proposed a Tk 53.59 crore budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which has been approved by the congress," Murshedi stated. "However, our projected income stands at Tk 31.49 crore, leaving us with a deficit of approximately Tk 22.2 crore."

Murshedi emphasised the collaborative efforts of the BFF and its president, Kazi Salahuddin, to secure the necessary funds. He further confirmed their intention to seek support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

"A formal request will be sent to the ministry in an attempt to address the budget shortfall," Murshedi added.

Defending the deficit, Murshedi pointed out, "Budget shortfalls are commonplace. If income and expenditure were always equal, then one might question the purpose of the BFF's contribution."

He expressed optimism about securing additional funding through sponsorships and government support. "We are confident that the Ministry of Youth and Sports will provide some assistance, allowing us to meet the budget shortfall."
