The much talked-about elections of the Bangladesh Football Federation will be held on April 20, a meeting of the executive committee of the game's local governing body decided today, ESPN reports. The elections will be held 10 days ahead of the last day of the current committee due to Ramadan, BFF's senior-vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy said after the meeting. The last elections were held on April 30, 2016.

"We have decided to hold the elections on April 20, 10 days before the current committee runs out to avoid Ramadan. During Ramadan, it will be difficult for councillors to come and stay in Dhaka to cast their votes," Murshedy told reporters at the BFF house, adding that they have formed a three-member election commission with former bureaucrat Mezbahuddin Ahmed as its chief.

Incumbent president Kazi Salahuddin has stated his desire to run for the president's post for a fourth consecutive time while businessman-turned-sports-organiser Tarafder Ruhul Amin, considered long to be his competitor, has opted out of the running recently even though he said his panel would contest in the other posts. Badal Roy, an incumbent vice-president, has announced that he would compete against Salahuddin unless any other candidate shows up for the president's post.
