Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Bera in Pabna Asif Anam Siddiqui was insulted by Municipal Mayor Abdul Baten at the Upazila Development Coordination Committee’s meeting on Monday afternoon.

Mentioning the details of the incident, the UNO has lodged written complaint with the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and other senior officials. Pabna DC Kabir Mahmud and several other people's representatives, present at the spot confirmed the truth of the matter.

Kabir Mahmud said “Bera Municipal Mayor Abdul Baten pressurized UNO Asif Anam Siddiqui to approve a written resolution regarding the lease of Kazirhat and Nagarbari Ghats in the upazila. I have received allegations that Mayor Baten treated him disrespectfully when the UNO refused to approve the matter as it was out of policy. I have informed the higher echelons of the government about this. We will take the next step as per the instructions of the Ministry of Public Administration”.

Meanwhile, several people's representatives present at the development coordination meeting said that the mayor of Bera Municipal Council Abdul Baten pressured the Upazila Nirbahi Officer to approve the resolution of a written decision to give Kazirhat and Nagarbarighat under the control of the upazila administration under the control of the Upazila Parishad in a completely unconstitutional manner.

The UNO said that the matter was beyond the jurisdiction of the mayor and was not in accordance with the rules. At this time, Bera Municipal Mayor Abdul Baten became extremely agitated and started abusing the Upazila Nirbahi Officer in vulgar language. At one point he got up from the chair, pushed her and tried to hit her, but others in the meeting tried to stop him.
