Bengali nation’s greatest achievement is freedom: CCC Mayor

Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has said that the greatest achievement of the Bengali nation is achieving freedom.  Bangladesh gained its independence through a bloody struggle against the exploitation and deprivation of the Pakistani rulers under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of 'Mukti Utsab' and 'Subarna Jayanti Mela' organized by Chittagong District Administration at Gymnasium ground adjacent to MA Aziz Stadium on Wednesday evening.

He said that the golden jubilee of independence is a source of joy and pride for every Bengali.

Celebrating the golden jubilee of independence starting from the year of Mujib makes every Bengali glorious and happy.  Therefore, the history of the political struggle of the father of the nation and the liberation struggle of Bengalis should be presented to the new generation.

Special Guest DIG Police Anwar Hossain said the father of the nation was a brave, honest and patriotic leader.  He always spoke of the people of the country.

 He thought of improving the living standards of the people of the country.  Bangladesh became independent because we got a brave leader like Bangabandhu.  We feel lucky to be able to celebrate the golden jubilee of independence.

Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Md. Ashraf Uddin presided over the closing ceremony. Special guests were Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Shyamal Kumar Nath, District Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque, Commander of Nagar Muktijoddha Sangsad Freedom Fighter Mozaffar Ahmed, District Acting Commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad Freedom Fighter AKM Sarwar Kamal Dulu.
