Benapole customs seizes 26kg contraband medicine

Custom officials seized a consignment of 26 kg of contraband Viagra medicine imported through Benapole port under false declaration on Wednesday. Benapole Port Deputy Director Abdul Jalil confirmed the seizure of imported Viagra consignments. On Wednesday night, the customs authorities seized the Viagra consignment from Shed No. 42 in Benapole port.

After seized, the consignment was sent to the customs lab for Chemical test and confirmed that it was Viagra. Customs sources said the seized Viagra was worth TK. 50 lakh. Maa Mony Enterprise of Jashore imported the Viagra consignment with false declaration. Amin Imports and Exports, a C&F agent in Benapole, was trying to deliver the consignment from the port.

Benapole Custom House Deputy Commissioner Anupam Chakma said, On May 31, the 301 package of goods imported from India in the declared of Motor Parts and Others. The consignment was later kept at Shed No. 42, in Benapole Port.

Later tests showed that out of 301 packages, package number 114 contained 26.21 kg of powdered products. Viagra was initially identified by taking samples and testing the samples in the chemical laboratory of the custom house. 

He further said that the imported Viagra has been brought into the custody of the customs from the port shed No. 42 for the security in the public interest. Necessary steps will be taken in this regard against the concerned.

Benapole customs officials seized another consignment of Viagra weighing 200 kg on July 24, 2019 and 2000 kg on August 8 of the same year. Customs officials claimed that the market value was around Tk 14 crore.
