Belarus keen on joining RNPP

Belarus is keen to assist Bangladesh develop the under-construction Rooppur nuclear power project (RNPP) through high-level training, exchange of experience, and supply of safety equipment. 

To this end, bilateral talks were underway between the two countries. 

Belarus's Deputy Minister of Industry, Dmitry Kharitunchik made the revelation at a press conference at Dhaka Club on Saturday.

Stressing on safety of nuclear power plants, the Belarus's Minister said that ‘in addition to these, the safety of nuclear power projects was also discussed. “You all remember the tragedy of the Chernobyl power plant in the former Soviet Union. So, we have talked a lot about this. Because in past experience, we think the safety of nuclear power projects is important. Security expert training has been discussed. We also discussed safety equipment.”

"It is important to have an agreement between the two countries for effective cooperation. For this, the concerned ministries and agencies will finalize the matter by discussing among themselves,’ he added. 

Dmitry Kharitanchik said "The first phase of the construction of nuclear power in Belarus has been completed. It has also built a reactor for the nuclear power plant. Bangladesh is also interested to learn about the experience. We also want to know the experience of power plants in Bangladesh. '

Among others, Ambassador of Belarus Andrei Razhevsky, Honorary Consul of Belarus to Bangladesh Aniruddha K. Roy and members of the visiting Belarusian delegation to Bangladesh were also present at the press conference.
