BCL stands by Kushtia farmers

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student body of ruling Awami League, on Monday assisted Kushtia farmers in cutting paddy. They also helped farmer in trashing the paddy. 

From morning till evening, activists of the ruling party's student wing joined hands with Riazul, a farmers in Kumarkhali upazila's Baradi to cut the ripen paddy and threshed it. Later they took the harvest to the farmers' home.

Kushtia District BCL President Yassin Arafat Tushar led more than a hundred leaders and activists to take part in the event. Kushtia District BCL Vice Presidents Mostafizur Rahman Mustaq, Mostakim, Tamim, Anik, Jiban Hasan and Kumarkhali Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Lovely Yasmin, among others, were present at the time.

Farmer Riazul said, “This year the yield of paddy is good. But it was about to sink in rain water. I was not getting any helping hands and was extremely worried about it. The BCL members helped in harvesting the almost submerged paddy in the muddy water. I am very happy and grateful to them.”

Kushtia District BCL President Yasin Arafat Tushar said, "We are trying to be by the side of the farmers as per the advice and instructions of Mahbubul Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League and local MP." 

We are also very careful while harvesting paddy. The MP has also instructed us to be vigilant in this regard. The local agriculture office is also cooperating with us. According to the information of the agriculture office, if there is any news about the farmers who are suffering from acute shortage of farm labour, we will actually cut and thresh the paddy of that farmer.”
