BCL celebrates 73rd founding anniversary countrywide

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student body of ruling Awami League, celebrated its 73rd founding anniversary across the country on Monday through different programmes.

The largest student organisation in the country was floated on January 4 in 1948 at the instruction of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with a view to attaining the country’s independence.

Marking the founding anniversary, the BCL has taken elaborate programmes, which were observed in the capital and all parts of the country. Our Correspondents sent news items on the issue.

In Cumilla, the Comilla University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League celebrated its 73rd founding anniversary amid various programmes, reports our CoU Correspondent

The celebration programme began with hoisting the national and party flags in front of the university gymnasium at 7:30am.

The unit leaders and activists of the organisation placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the campus at around 11:00am.

A rally, led by the unit president Elias Mia and general secretary Rezaul Islam Majed, was also brought out on the campus which started from in front of the administration building and ended at the main entrance premises of the university parading different streets of the campus.

The brief celebration programmes ended by cutting a cake on the campus premises at around 12.00pm.

Teachers of different departments, students and the unit BCL leaders and activists attended the program among others.

In Satkhira, the day was celebrated through various activities including discussion meetings, cake cutting and laying wreaths before Bangabandhu’s portrait, reports our Satkhira Correspondent. 

Mir Mostaq Ahmed Robi, MP from Satkhira-2 constituency, addressed the discussion organised by Satkhira district Chhatra League at Bangabandhu Memorial Library in Satkhira town, as the chief guest. 

Satkhira Chhatra League leader Kaji Hashim Uddin Himel presided over the discussion while, Chhatra League leader Maksumul Hakim, General Secretary of District Women's Awami League Jyoti Ara and other Awami League leaders were present.

In Pabna, Ishwardi Upazila, Municipal and Ishwardi Government College Chhatra League units jointly celebrated the day on a small scale due to ongoing corona situation, reports our Ishwardi Correspondent. 

National and party flags were hoisted at the Awami League office on Station Road in the city at 7 am. After that, wreaths were laid before the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. 

A tree-planting programme was inaugurated in front of the BCL office adjacent to Post Office More at 7:30 am. After Zuhr prayers, special prayers were offered at Ishwardi Government College Mosque. Later, a cake was cut in the Awami League office at 6 pm in the presence of Awami League, Jubo league and Chhatra League leaders.

In Baherhat, the 73rd founding anniversary of Bangladesh Chhatra League was celebrated at Chitalmari in the district like elsewhere of the country following the health measures, reports our Chitalmari Correspondent. 

The national flag and party flag were hoisted at the party office and the cake was cut by the newly elected President of Upazila Chhatra League Md. Riajul Islam Riad and General Secretary Rabin Hira with many leaders and workers of different units of Chhatra League. Among others the leaders and workers of the Upazila Awami League and all its allies and fraternal organizations were also ptesent.

'History of Chhatra League is history of Bengalis, history of Chhatra League is history of independence', said the leaders in short discussion. 

They also said that Bangladesh Chhatra League will walk the path in the future with the glorious tradition of fighting for the golden future, fighting against communalism and for the liberation war embracing the ideology of the Father of the Nation.

In Chuadanga, the funding anniversary of the organisation was observed in the district with hoisting of flags, placing wreaths at portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, cutting cakes, blankets distribution among poor people and special prayers, reports our Chuadanga Correspondent. 

The national flag and BCL flags were hoisted by Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun, MP, and Mohaimen Hasan Joarder Anik, President of District BCL at 6:30 am. 

BCL leaders, activists and supporters placed wreaths at the portrait of Banglabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at 7:00 am. Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun, MP along with Reajul Islam Joarder Toton and other leaders of Awamileague presented wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portrait. 

Cake cutting, blankets giving to the poor people and special monajat for progressing of the nation were arranged afternoon to mark the day. 

In Jamalpur, the district BCL celebrated the 73rd founding anniversary amid various programmes. 

On the occasion, a colourful procession was brought out in the district town, reports our Jamalpur Correspondent.
