BCG rescues 10 crews of sunken lighter ship

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard on Saturday rescued 10 crews of the sunken lighter ship ‘MV Beauty of Lohagara-2’ from Jefford Point of Sundarbans.

Media Officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard Lieutenant Khansakar Munif on Saturday noon confirmed the information at a press briefing. 

Lt Khandakar Munif said that the lighter ship was on its way to Khulna carrying stone blocks. During the trip, a leakage occurred at the floor of the ship at 10 pm of Friday night. At the time, the ship was crossing Jefford Point of Sundarbans area. When the crew informed Bangladesh Coast Guard, BCG members from Dublarchar Post immediately arrived at the place and rescued 10 crews from the sunken ship.  

Later, they were taken to the shore and treated with medicine and food. 

Lt Khandakar Munif said that Bangladesh Coast Guard is actively conducting drives to curb down the crime rate in coastal areas of the country. In addition, they are always prepared for rescue missions in coastal areas.
