BCB should focus on players’ behaviour

The time has come for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to be strict to handle the situation with painstakingly in deed with following the terms of contract they have with the players, otherwise in future problems will appear enormous.

When any cricketer looks very underlying about his national duty and thinks he can do whatever he wants avoiding the terms and conditions, and careless about his commitment, the authority (BCB) might be strict on that from right now.

As we know there are so many terms where obviously it mentioned that players can’t skip from any of the series without previous notice to the board.

Even after Shakib Al Hasan’s escaping from the different tour for different reasons - playing franchises crickets, injury problem, suspension by ICC and personal leave when since the start of 2017, Shakib has played only 15 of the 33 Tests Bangladesh had.

Not only Shakib, Mahmudullah Riyad, Tamim Iqbal also announced not to play Test cricket and the T20 World Cup respectively last year.

After all of those bitter experiences due to the choosiness of the players, the BCB president told the media (early in 2021) they would enter into a new contract with the players because – "When someone says I don't want to play the next Test, and play in a franchise T20 league, it becomes very clear that we can't do much with them," said the BCB boss Nazmul Hasan Papon.

According to the BCB president the new contract weigh up that there will be mentioned clearly who wants to play which format. They have to inform the board. If they have any other engagement, they have to be clear about their availability.

Meanwhile, previously, it depended on individuals but now the board confirming it in writing, so that nobody can say that they haven't been allowed or BCB kept them forcefully. After signing the annual contract with new clauses would ensure the players commit themselves to playing for Bangladesh, as the BCB president explained.   But now the questions stand up that whether the players obey the clauses of their contract with BCB.

If the cricketers would give importance or the BCB would be strict on their standpoint the president would not had to hit back at Shakib Al Hasan expressing his reluctance to tour South Africa this week (team scheduled to leave on March 11).

So it is the high time to focus extremely on the players’ manner how they react or follow the clauses of contract between the BCB and them.

If the BCB would be stalwart on their position, in future none of the cricketer would skip from any of the national commitment giving lame excuses and that would be better for    the players as well as for the national cricket team.

If both the parties, BCB and the players are honest to follow the rules and regulations of their contracts, there would be no scope for any misunderstanding between BCB and the players and that would be better for progressing the country’s cricket.
